AppId is over the quota
Humanity+ board elections are coming up soon, and I will be running for reelection.
Here are the projects I will personally pursue if reelected to the board:
1. Development of a well-cited, academic-quality Emerging Technologies Wiki. A seed of a couple hundred articles would attract serious thinkers in public policy, science, and technology and build sorely needed credibility for Humanity+. I am willing to do most of the writing for this myself, but would appreciate others to share in the task if they are qualified. I’ve already built a list of 200 potential articles.
2. Set up a mentorship program within Humanity+ where students can connect to established scientists and technologists in fields such as biotech, nanotech, personalized manufacturing, and medicine. Humanity+ has been serving this role informally for many years, and it should be encouraged. We compile a list of interested students who apply, categorize them based on their research focus, and offer these lists to scientists interested in guiding promising young people. This will be a life-changer to brilliant students who don’t feel supported by their current advisors.
3. Develop material to encourage local futurists salons. Discussion topics, books of interest, how to host salons, when to start a group in your city, make it easier for transhumanists to find others in their area, etc.
4. Brainstorm possibilities for increasing the profile of transhumanism as a political movement. Investigate hot-button issues that may be leveraged over the next five years to advance our goals without inviting backlash. This would mainly be a thought experiment, evaluating the possibility of action rather than direct action. The International Longevity Alliance is a good model in this area.
5. Participate in the improvement of H+ magazine by encouraging a transition to themed monthly issues with high quality articles based on what is happening in sci/tech today rather than speculation about the future.
6. Launch a membership drive by personally contacting those who might be interested in getting involved and sharing our projects with them. Find more ways that Humanity+ can directly benefit our membership.
In general, I take an inclusive stance towards proposals from outside the board, serving as a channel for interested members to get more involved in our core activities.
What I bring to the table:
* 10+ years of experience in transhumanist activism and non-profit management.
* Commitment to increasing the amount of useful activity Humanity+ performs. A magazine and conference is not enough.
* Extensive knowledge base which can be written down and used to attract high-profile members.
If you are a full member of Humanity+, I’d appreciate your support. You can still join, by signing up here.
